Anybody here an electronics expert?? |

I have a small DC motor. I want to slow down the rpms. It turns way too fast for my project. Can this be done? Is there something that I can solder into the
circuit? I dont want to use gears. I plan to use two AA batteries for power.

I don't know jack shitz about it! You might try to see if the motor will run on 1 AA battery or ask the folks at Radio Shack for an in line resistor that
you could solder in?
Just my thoughts 12ozMouse

You might want to get a variable resistor. This way you get regulate the current to adjest the speed of the motor.

Thanks guys...I will check into it. I seem to recall hearing about a variable resistor now that you mention it...

Variable would do it,easiest option is either run with one battery or connect the two in parallel, this will give same voltage but twice the current so the
motor will run longer.hope this helps and makes sense.

It does ak615...I had just picked up some walkie talkies from the Cusseta Walmart (recycle center) and am gonna use the volume control off of one of them...I
looked up variable resistors on wikepedia and it shows this as being one of the types. Thanks all for responding. I was stumped !!!!!!!!!

Ok what is it in? If it's in an RC vehicle, easy fix, buy yourself an electronic speed control. You can control RPMs with the trigger on your controler. I
suggest an LRP or Novak. Also try changing pinnion gears and spear gears to get the desired effect. RC racers have been doing this for years. I can make my RC
race car crawl...Any RC hobby shop sells these, also tower hobbies...

klaby, I am using the motor to turn a wood dowel but it needs to turn very slowly. Because of space constraints, I wanted to avoid using gears if at all
possible. I took a potentiometer off of a walkie talkie and wired it up. I can slow the motor down but not enough to meet my requirements.

You may have to try a different VR or add a resistor as well,I`ll try and work out the values for you.do you know the rpm of the motor at 3volts ? and what
speed are you trying to achieve ?

Ok, thanks, ak615. I have a few small gear boxes that I will try and use if all else fails. No I dont know the rpms of the motor at 3 volts...I am trying to
obtain about 60 rpm.

If you can lay your hands on a 100k VR that should be more than enough to slow the motor to any speed you want.

ok...and what is a VR ?...Voltage Resistor? how do I know if its a 100k ? I have alot of electronic parts around that I may be able to scavenge from.

Thanks again, ak615. Yes, it makes sense. I figured it out AFTER I embarrassed myself with my last comment. I am not an electronics guy. I do appreciate the
help and will give it a try.
