Thanks guys. The Johhny West horses are my favorite. I have two more that I need to get finished up sometime in the future.
I said that the bridle was made from "lace trim" but its not really lace. Thats my generic terminology for any kind of small ribbon such as what is pictured. I bought the "lace" at Walmart.
Sofa Commander, the horse was in pretty rough shape. I couildn't believe that the staples actually went in his body without causing more damage than they did. I used 'DAP, Fast 'N Final Lightweight Spackling 'for the holes, cracks and other body imperfections. It sands easily but is not sturdy enough to make body parts.
I have another horse who's foot was broken off right below the ankle. I used modeling clay to make a two part mold of the front right foot and poured plaster into the two halves of the mold, and glued the two halves together to make a replacement for the front left foot. it can be glued on with super glue. The repair isnt something that will stand up to heavy use but is great for displaying. You could also make a plaster mold and use air-dry modeling clay for the casting. This may even be a better repair than the plaster. I have another idea in which silicone rubber is used for the casting but I haven't tried it yet.
