Thanks for the well wishes guys, I really was lucky with this storm. My neighbor and I are going to attempt to take down the tree that's threatening my house. The guy is one hell of a tree cutter, I watched him take down a huge pine tree in his back yard, climbed up it with a chainsaw and did it piece by piece.
Brine glad to here you made it unscathed other than the power loss! I think NJ, overall, got hit harder than NY. I saw footage of the Jersey shore on the news, horrible. NY is moving at a pretty good clip with restoring power, but there is so much down it's gonna take a while. I haven't heard much about the efforts to drain the flooded tunnels in the city, but I do know the army corp of engineers was brought in. Some train service has actually been restored as well, which I was surprised by. A big problem right now is the availability of gas, there's like none. Between delayed deliveries and people fueling generators, there's a massive gas shortage. There's also a shortage of rental cars, which is no surprise with how many cars were submerged in this. Not only did I lose one car, which was actually my mothers, the transmission went on mine and no word when I'm gonna get it back. I'm gonna see if I can get my father's car running, but it's been sitting for about a year. Despite this, man am I lucky, I thank God and pray whenever I see all the poor folks that lost their homes on the news, as well as those that lost their lives. I don't know the exact number but I think at least 2 dozen people died as a result of the storm in NYC, many of those elderly that drowned in their homes from the storm surge.
Brine and anyone else that was in the storms path, I'm glad you're all ok, but be careful, trees are still coming down. Weakened by the storm, there are trees falling even now in the days after the storm. The winds picked up this evening, I'm nervous as hell about the tree out front.
