For a very long time I've been convinced that the Street Racer was really part of a planned James Bond Jr. 12" line that was terminated when the animated series was canceled.
Have a look at the Racer versus a version of Junior's car (molded in the exact same red styrene) issued for the 5" figure line along with a smaller still die-cast model:
I recognize the styling is a bit different but to my mind, the similarities (hood details, rims, rake of the windshield, etc.) are more than a coincidence. Add-in that Hasbro owned the rights to JBJ, were manufacturing the 5" line, and were planning further JBJ toys at various scales (I own one of the unproduced prototypes) along with the fact that the Racer is a two-seater (which almost no other Action Man vehicle is) and a spy-car with hidden rocket launchers (again, the first Action Man vehicle leaning that direction and having such features) and I think there's something to the argument.
Curious what anyone else thinks.
